Analysis Of The Poem The Yard Of An Old Married Couple

Out in the yard of an old married couple, there grew a peach tree that flourished with fruit every year, and every year the routine was the same. When summer arrived, each day the old couple would walk outside to pick the ripest peaches on their tree. Some days, they would walk home proudly with a basket full of ripe peaches, giddy with excitement for what they might bake with their prized fruit. But every once in a while, they would come home with very few peaches, allowing them to solemnly eat their fresh fruit instead of a concocted sweet treat. One particular day, as the couple walked to their peach tree, they giggled about what they might bake that night. They listed peach cobbler, peach jam on biscuits, or even a peach pie! The possibilities were endless. When they arrived to their tree, in a joking tone, the old woman spoke to the tree. â€Å"Peaches,† she hooted, â€Å"are you ready to be picked?† â€Å"Yeah, peaches, will you grant me and my beloved wife your sweet taste?† laughed her husband. The wind started to roar the suddenly dark sky sent a chill down the old mans spine. Every limb on their beloved peach tree began to shiver and sway. Creak! Creak! The tree branches said as they bent down over the now humbled old couple. â€Å"What is going on?† the old man whispered to his wife. â€Å"I†¦. I don’t know,† she whispered back in a cracked voice. â€Å"You don’t know a lot of things lady!!!† The old couple froze.
